Is MPG worth risking public safety?

Ever since I read the articles and heard the news about the Obama Administration's plan to increase fuel efficiency for all cars to around 35 MPG, I couldn't help but think about the safety factor. In order to meet the MPG regulations that are planned, manufacturers will have to make cars smaller and lighter. Take the smart car for example. It is capable of 33 MPG and does have basic safety features such as air bags and ABS. But what bothers me is that small fuel efficient cars are not practical for families with 2 or 3 kids and a dog.

Families will always need modes of transportation such as vans. Companies will need tractor trailer 18 wheel trucks. People looking to impress others will buy large cars. So long as there are still cars and trucks on the road other than the smart car and the like, there is going to be a huge risk to public safety. Unless every car in the country was replaced with similar small cars, the likelihood of deaths per accident is too scary to ignore. The only advantage I could think of is that instead of dying a painful death in a hospital, you will probably die instantly.

Don't get me wrong, I do not condemn policies increasing MPG efficiency. I am just concerned that the administration is not fully considering the public safety issue of promoting small less than safe cars. What is your opinion?

Letter to Obama - America Arrogant?

How dare you declare to the European Nations that America is arrogant. And to make matters worse, you have the audacity to apologize for the past eight years and even went so far as to say how embarrassed you are for President Bush's reign.

I know you are not reading this Mr. President but I feel the need to remind you that it took President Bush eight years to create a trillion dollar deficit. In just over three months you created over 3 trillion! And like it or not, President Bush kept this country safe for eight years. Yes there are a lot of things that could have been done differently. But in the end, Bush always put the country first. He did not feel the need to kiss Europe's back side and try and make everyone like us. Maybe you could start doing the same as our American President instead of trying to make yourself the most popular politician on Earth...

Non - Stimulus Package

What is the definition of stimulus. According to Webster Online, it means "any stimulating information or event; acts to arouse action." Based solely on this statement, the stimulus package recently passed by our government will do exactly what a stimulus is meant to do. However, the intentions of the package is to stimulate the economy. I believe it will not do so.

Fox News reported that the majority of the billions assigned to the stimulus package will go towards construction and infrastructure projects. But in appears that the government has forgotten that this country is based on capitalism and that the economy is consumer driven. Building roads and bridges will not entice consumers to go buy a new car or large screen plasma television. In addition, building roads and bridges will not stop companies from eliminating jobs let alone create new ones. For example, Best Buy announced that it will cut 250 positions at its corporate headquarters. This is not a good sign especially after Circuit City going under. Do you really believe that building roads and bridges will stop Best Buy from cutting jobs?

I work in a retail environment and the atmosphere in this market is scarier than Freddy, Jason, and Leather Face combined. Stores are either closing or severely downsizing its work force. Our government, under the leadership of the "Chosen One", has failed to recognize that the key ingredient to turning the direction of our failing economy is consumer confidence. The more people feel safe with their financial means, the more they will spend. I am an animal lover, not an economist. If I can see through all the partisan bull, why can't those who swear they act only in our country's best interest do the same?

Barak Obama: The Next American President or Next American Rock Star

Barak Obama is making history, I give him that. I believe him to be a good role model especially for young African American boys. He has proven that if you work hard, stay in school, and don’t get roped into drugs and gangs you can do anything you want such as running for President of the United States. His ability to appeal to the masses with his uplifting speaking ability and rhetoric has definitely taken the country and mass media by storm. The crowds standing and cheering before him resemble that of huge rock concerts performed by Kiss, The Rolling Stones and the like. But sadly, in my opinion, that’s were it ends. I do not see Barak as our next President and here’s why. He has not stepped up to challenge McCain in a presidential manner. When McCain issued invites to do a series of Town Hall Meetings Obama declined. Why? What was he afraid of? If he is to be President, he needs to show that he can get into the face of his opponents and not back down from a fight. He must prove he can get the job done without the mass media’s help. Then there were all those little sly comments being made such as not looking like the pictures on dollar bills. With his witty and attractive speech making abilities why did he have to stoop to such a level? The point I’m trying to make is that I haven’t seen anything presidential about Barak and time is ticking. Unless he starts showing me that he can be President instead of a glorified performer, it looks like I’m voting Republican…again.

Hillary Clinton: Independant Run?

Congrats Hillary for another win in Kentucky. I am glad she is not showing any signs of quiting even though most of the Democratic Party and biased media would love her to do so. As more and more people are hypnotized by Barack Obama's rock star persona, Hillary is moving forth until all State's have their say. Her no-quit attitude and willingness to not give up until the game is over is making me more of a Clinton supporter. I am sorry to the Obama supporters but Barack reminds me of a rock star that was put on top of a high pedestal. It's only a matter of time before he falls off. Then I started thinking, if Hillary does not get the nomination, which based on the media she will not, why not take a go as an Independent. This way everyone will get a chance to see what Barack is really made out of and the two most likely leaders (not Obama) will have a chance to prove who is best to run our country for four years.

Hillary Clinton: You Go Girl...

Ever since the latest primary results, the outcry for Hillary Clinton's withdrawal of her run for President has increased ten fold. But she had stayed firm that she will not quit until all the State's have had their vote. Love her or hate her...agree or disagree...there is no denying that Clinton's actions are refreshing and a good example for all young people today. It is so easy to quit when things are not going your way. It is so easy to just forget about doing something because you may fail. It is so easy to turn your attention to those who seem to be a sure thing and shun those who may not be on top. But sometimes taking the easy road is not a very good example for our children. Sometimes it is better to not quit and keep going even if success is doubtful. This is what Hillary is doing now and in my opinion makes her more powerful then any other politician currently in the spot light.

Support Our Troops!

Please Act Now To Support Our Troops!

While surfing the latest news on http://foxnews.com/ I came across a video link regarding anti-war protesters spitting on one of our soldiers. I was unable to hear the audio or read any text as of yet so anyone with further information please let me know. But the lack of information about this story has not lessened the sickening feeling in my stomach. I did not grow up in the Vietnam Era but remember seeing pictures of how badly our troops were treated. Those images still affect me today and the idea that we are starting to treat our troops like that makes me heave in disgust. We have every right as Americans to protest the war and our government's policies but we have no right what-so-ever to assault and degrade our soldiers. If it wasn't for our brave soldiers who have given themselves to protect this country we would not have the right of free speech let alone protest. Please to anyone reading do not allow acts of aggression and frustration against our heroes to continue. Tonight I am writing to my congressional rep to let them know this behavior can not be tolerated. I beg you to do the same. We can protest and shout as much as we want against the war but we must not cross the line and belittle our military. They deserve only our respect and thanks!

The American People Have Spoken

Congress is now controlled by the democratic party and no matter what party you are affiliated with the duty of all Americans right now is to keep on our government's heels. We have given them all a wake-up call and demonstrated what we are capable of. We changed the balance of power that was unchanged for 12 long years. All week we've heard how this congress will rule in a bi-partisan fashion and that democrats and republicans are going to work together to solve the problems in Iraq, improve our economy and employment, and fight illegal immigration...Just to name a few.

In my opinion, congress should have been following this philosophy all along. Words are easy to say. Acing upon words and getting the job done is much harder and it is our responsibility as American Citizens to keep an eye on our government and never let them forget who made them. We must not sit back for another decade and watch our nation fall from grace even more. We must keep our voices as loud as them, if not louder, and force congress to get to work solving today's many problems.
