Non - Stimulus Package

What is the definition of stimulus. According to Webster Online, it means "any stimulating information or event; acts to arouse action." Based solely on this statement, the stimulus package recently passed by our government will do exactly what a stimulus is meant to do. However, the intentions of the package is to stimulate the economy. I believe it will not do so.

Fox News reported that the majority of the billions assigned to the stimulus package will go towards construction and infrastructure projects. But in appears that the government has forgotten that this country is based on capitalism and that the economy is consumer driven. Building roads and bridges will not entice consumers to go buy a new car or large screen plasma television. In addition, building roads and bridges will not stop companies from eliminating jobs let alone create new ones. For example, Best Buy announced that it will cut 250 positions at its corporate headquarters. This is not a good sign especially after Circuit City going under. Do you really believe that building roads and bridges will stop Best Buy from cutting jobs?

I work in a retail environment and the atmosphere in this market is scarier than Freddy, Jason, and Leather Face combined. Stores are either closing or severely downsizing its work force. Our government, under the leadership of the "Chosen One", has failed to recognize that the key ingredient to turning the direction of our failing economy is consumer confidence. The more people feel safe with their financial means, the more they will spend. I am an animal lover, not an economist. If I can see through all the partisan bull, why can't those who swear they act only in our country's best interest do the same?
